Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev graciously accepted the “favorite on-screen chemistry” People’s Choice Award with a high-five, a kiss and a laugh despite having broken up off-screen.

“The Vampire Diaries” costars, who play star-crossed vampires Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert on the CW series, announced their split in May after three years of dating, thus dashing the hopes of Team Delena.

The pair took their relationship public in 2011 and are said to be “consummate professionals” who “will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started,” a source told Us Magazine at the time.

And so it was Wednesday night at the 40th annual People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles, when they made their way onstage together to accept their onscreen chemistry award from presenters Shemar Moore and Malin Akerman, who appeared to be in heat for one another.

“Thank you, wow, this is crazy,” said Somerhalder, 35, who also won the award for sci-fi TV actor. “Can you believe that this is almost five years in the making?”

“You’re right, yeah,” replied Dobrev, who turned 25 on Thursday. “But you know, I think what’s crazier though Ian, is at the beginning of the show is Elena actually hated Damon.”

“You were hooking up with my brother [Stefan, played by Paul Wesley],” he quipped.

“Well, you killed my brother,” she added.

“Then eventually she fell in love with me,” he said.

“And then we started dating on the show,” she said.

“Then we started dating in real life,” Somerhalder trailed.

“And then we broke up in real life,” she asserted.

“And yet our characters are still dating on the show,” he pointed out.

“It’s a good thing it’s not awkward,” Dobrev painfully said, with a nervous laugh.

That’s when they gave each other uber-awkward sideways glances.

“Well, it’s a good think we have chemistry!” Dobrev exclaimed, then Somerhalder gave her a huge kiss on the cheek and said, Thank you guys so much!”
