Yes, Wallis is tremendous as the young Hushpuppy, desperately clinging to some semblance of her childhood fantasies, even while being forced to grow up quickly and under the harshest of conditions. And it would be delicious, watching her sprint up on stage to grab a statue not much smaller than she is. This was an especially good year for actresses, and the very fact that Wallis was nominated is achievement enough. Of course, if the academy is really serious about skewing younger...
