“The Night of the Ad Eaters” is a touring international festival that showcases hundreds of commercials from 40 countries.

Created and produced by Jean Marie Boursicot for more than 30 years, the advertising extravaganza has developed a devoted following, attracting more than 300,000 attendees in some 100 cities in 40 countries.

On Friday, a special three-hour edition arrives at the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The program is said to be hand-picked from Boursicot’s personal archive. Categories include songs in commercials produced in the United States, New York in commercials, Pepsi commercials from different countries, “Star Wars”-themed ads and cinematic blockbusters in commercials.

There’ll also be a lot of familiar faces in the commercials -- among them Charlie Chaplin, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Dustin Hoffman and Paul Newman.

One section is devoted to “world’s best directors making ads for Parisienne cigarettes” and features commercials from the likes of Jean-Luc Godard, David Lynch, Roman Polanski, Robert Altman and the Coen Brothers.

Calling the collection a “unique cultural program,” Gwen Deglise, film curator and programmer for the American Cinematheque, said, “We anticipate that local audiences will enjoy it as much as audiences have all over the world.”
