‘Argo,’ ‘The Hobbit’ in contention for Golden Reel awards

“Argo,” “Life of Pi,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”; “Skyfall” and “Lincoln” earned multiple nominations Friday morning for the Motion Picture Sound Editors 60th annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards.

Nominations were announced for 22 categories in feature film, TV, animation, computer entertainment and student work.

Nominees for best sound editing: sound effects and foley in a feature film are “Argo”; “Django Unchained”; “Life of Pi”; “The Avengers”; “Prometheus”; “Skyfall”; “The Dark Knight Rises”; and “The Hobbit.”

Vying for best sound effects editing: sound effects, foley, dialogue, and ADR in an animated feature are “A Cat in Paris”; “Brave”; “The Lorax”; “Frankenweenie”; “ParaNorman”; “The Pirates! Band of Misfits”; “Rise of the Guardians”; and “Wreck-it Ralph.”

Nominees for best sound editing: dialogue and ADR in a feature film are “Argo”; “Beasts of the Southern Wild”; “Life of Pi”; “Lincoln”; “Moonrise Kingdom”; “Silver Linings Playbook”; “Skyfall”; and “The Hobbit.”

Best sound editing: music in a feature nominees are “A Cabin in the Woods”; “Argo”; “Django Unchained”; “Life of Pi”; “Lincoln”; “Skyfall”; “The Dark Knight Rises”; and “The Hobbit.”

Contenders in the best sound editing: music in a musical feature film category are “Joyful Noise”; “Les Miserables”; “Pitch Perfect”; and “Rock of Ages.”

Best sound editing: sound effects, foley, dialogue, ADR and music in a feature documentary are “Bully”; “Climate Refugees”; “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”; “Marley”; and “Searching for Sugar Man.”

Nominees for best sound editing: sound effects, foley, dialogue and ADR in a feature foreign language film are “80 Million”; “Amour”; “Children of Sarajevo”; “Hypnotist”; “The Intouchables”; and “Rust and Bone.”

Among the television nominees are “Homeland”; “True Blood”; “The Walking Dead”; “Castle”; “Glee”; and “Hatfields & McCoys.”

As previously announced, Ang Lee is the recipient of the Filmmaker Award and foley artist John Roesch will receive the Career Achievement Award.

The Golden Reel Awards will be presented Feb. 17 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suite in Los Angeles.
