‘Big Miracle’ and ‘The Colbert Report’ among Genesis winners

The feature film “Big Miracle,” Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” the canceled NBC series “Harry’s Law” and Discovery Channel’s “Ivory Wars” were among the winners Saturday of the Humane Society of the United States’ Genesis Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

“Big Miracle,” a drama about an effort to save a family of trapped whales, won best feature film. Stephen Colbert’s “The Colbert Report” earned the Sid Caesar Comedy Award for its satire on a congressman’s defense of dog fighting.

“Harry’s Law,” which ended its run last year, won the television drama honor for an episode exploring the ethics of keeping primates in captivity.

“Ivory Wars” took the television documentary honors, while NBC’s “Rock Center With Brian Williams” and ABC’s “Nightline” tied for the TV newsmagazine award.

Recording artist Ke$ha received the Wyler Award for her efforts in getting out the word to her fan base about animal protection issues.

Children’s programming: “Nick News With Linda Ellerbee: Animals? Show Me the Money” (Nickelodeon)

Brigitte Bardot International TV: “60 Minutes: Jungle Warfare” (Nine Network Australia)

Print Magazine: National Geographic
