Despite leading the nominations, Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” biopic starring Daniel Day-Lewis has failed to deliver wins in the biggest categories this award season, save for Day-Lewis’ acting honors at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards and Tommy Lee Jones’ win for supporting actor at the SAG Awards.

Instead, Ben Affleck’s account of the Iranian hostage crisis in “Argo” has built steam and collected notable accolades at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Directors Guild Awards and the Writers Guild Awards. Affleck was snubbed the morning of the Academy Awards nominations when he didn’t get an acting or directing nod for his film, in which he also starred. It was one of the few occasions the Oscars’ director nods did not align with the DGA picks.

“Argo” still has a shot at capping the season with a best picture Oscar win, but it has its competition cut out for it with nods for “Lincoln,” the dramedy “Silver Linings Playbook,” the heartfelt “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” the spaghetti western “Django Unchained,” the musical “Les Miserables,” the visually stunning “Life of Pi,” the heart-wrenching “Amour” and the suspenseful “Zero Dark Thirty.” See the complete list of nominees here.
