Oscar nominations: Hathaway, Hunt, Field on supporting actress nods

After Helen Hunt got word that she was nominated in the supporting actress category for this year’s Academy Awards, she played with her dogs for a while and then took her daughter to school.

“It wasn’t like I drove over to the Beverly Hills Hotel and had champagne,” quipped Hunt, who plays a sex surrogate in “The Sessions.”

That, however, was pretty much exactly what Anne Hathaway did to celebrate her good news Thursday morning. After arriving to her foodless Los Angeles home from New York on Wednesday, the “Les Miserables” star and her husband opted to jet over to the Sunset Tower Hotel for breakfast and a couple of mimosas.

Fighting jet lag and “the tiniest bit of anticipation,” the 30-year-old actress barely got any sleep before the nominations were unveiled. And when she heard she received a nod for playing Fantine in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of the classic Broadway musical, she started to lose it.

“I just started gulping air,” she recalled. “I was a little nervous I was going to pass out. Hyperventilating gave way to crying -- it was a full-on display of emotions.”

Also celebrating on Thursday?

Amy Adams, who scored her fourth supporting actress nomination for her role as a supportive wife in “The Master”; Sally Field, whose turn as Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” earned her a third Oscar nomination; and Jacki Weaver, the “Silver Linings Playbook” star and Australian native once-before nominated for the low-budget gangster flick “Animal Kingdom.”

Weaver, 65, was in a Los Angeles hotel Thursday morning, and said she shouted out an “unprintable expletive” upon hearing the news. She said she is already looking forward to Vanity Fair’s post-Oscars party, which was a highlight during her first trip on the award circuit.

“This is going to sound silly, but one of the big thrills was meeting [Vanity Fair editor-in-chief] Graydon Carter, whose editorial every month I wait with baited breath for.”

Other Oscar perks are less exciting. Like those fancy gowns.

“It’s cold! It’s February, and you’re wearing a bikini with a skirt sewn onto it,” said Hunt, 49. “I wish it was about who wore the best cashmere scarf instead of being half-naked and freezing.”

You also get really hungry, says Hathaway. During her stint as Oscar host in 2011, the actress taped energy bars on all of the nominees’ seats to give them a boost during the often three-hour-long ceremony.

“I thought it might help them,” said Hathaway, who was nominated for best actress for her role in the 2008 drug addiction drama “Rachel Getting Married.” “This year I might need to have an Oscar backpack, or order a pizza to the theater.”

Field, meanwhile, says she isn’t worried about being in the shadow of one of the most iconic moments in Oscar history. Yes, we’re talking about “You like me! You really like me!” -- the line she uttered after winning a prize for her starring role in 1984’s “Places in the Heart.”

So what would she say to top that if she wins this time around?

“Nothing,” she said bluntly.
