Hoping to capitalize on the four Academy Award nominations for "Beasts of the Southern Wild," including a surprise best director selection for filmmaker Benh Zeitlin, Fox Searchlight will rerelease the film in about 70 theaters this weekend.
In addition to being nominated for the directing Oscar, "Beasts" was shortlisted for best picture, adapted screenplay for Zeitlin and Lucy Alibar, and lead actress for Quvenzhané Wallis, who at 9 is the youngest actress ever nominated in the category.
After premiering at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival a year ago and debuting in theaters last June, "Beasts" grossed more than $11.2 million in domestic release. The film about a single father (Dwight Henry) and his young daughter (Wallis) was released on video in early December.

“We are thrilled to bring this special film back to theaters a year after it debuted to standing ovations in Park City. With the Academy Award nominations, we hope Benh’s sublime vision can continue to win over audiences as it has around the globe for the last year,” Fox Searchlight presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula said in a statement.
"Beasts" will be shown in Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, Miami and Washington, D.C., in addition to New York City and Los Angeles, where it will play at the Landmark 12 in Westwood.
Fox Searchlight said it plans to add more theaters in February.
