ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT ENVELOPE OSCARS

'Far From Heaven'

'Far From Heaven' Todd Haynes’ take on sexual repression and institutional racism in the form of a '50s melodrama, drawing extensively from the films of Douglas Sirk, was likely always a little too heady for the meat-and-potatoes crowd of Oscar voters. Winner of four major Spirit Awards – including picture, actress and director – the film took home none of the four Oscars for which it was nominated. Jon Kopaloff / Getty Images
