"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" beat out some heavy-hitting favorites to emerge victorious in the race to win the Golden Globe for best comedy series on Sunday.

Still in its first season, the rookie Fox show stars Andy Samberg as a childish police detective learning to deal with a strict new captain, played by Andre Braugher. Samberg also won the Golden Globe for actor in a television comedy.

Sunday's surprise victory signaled a growing warmth toward the show, which has met with mixed but generally positive reviews.
