Golden Globes 2014: ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ wins best television comedy

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” beat out some heavy-hitting favorites to emerge victorious in the race to win the Golden Globe for best comedy series on Sunday.

Still in its first season, the rookie Fox show stars Andy Samberg as a childish police detective learning to deal with a strict new captain, played by Andre Braugher. Samberg also won the Golden Globe for actor in a television comedy.

Sunday’s surprise victory signaled a growing warmth toward the show, which has met with mixed but generally positive reviews.

The competition for the Golden Globe win included last year’s winner, HBO’s “Girls,” and ABC’s awards darling “Modern Family.”

Other contenders included “Parks and Recreation” (NBC) and “The Big Bang Theory” (CBS).

Hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, the 71st Golden Globe Awards are being held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, and the show is airing live on NBC.
