We’ll admit it -- here at the Ministry, we love a popularity contest. Especially in the case of “The Avengers,” which boasts an all-star cast playing Marvel’s beloved superheroes.

For those curious about which of the characters played by A-listers Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans fans would most like to be, Facebook has taken out the guesswork.

The social media platform said it polled a sample of the more than 5 million users who play its official “Avengers” game, to see which hero came out on top. Drumroll ...

In an unsurprising result, folks are still enamored with Iron Man, with Downey snatching 37% of the overall vote. Evans’ Captain America came in second at 19%, with Hemsworth on his heels as Thor with 17%.

Johansson’s assassin Black Widow netted a 13% popularity score, with Ruffalo’s Incredible Hulk coming in last at 11%. Does anyone in this franchise really lose, though?

The film, which has already generated massive cash in overseas markets, will surely make waves when it opens stateside Friday. And though those polled said they’d least like to become the green-with-rage Hulk, Ruffalo’s portrayal is definitely winning over audiences.

The Avengers’ wrangler, Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, wasn’t up for consideration -- which seems fair, because really, who doesn’t love Sam? Well, maybe this one guy.

And, oh, you want the Ministry’s pick? Pepper Potts, of course.
