Chris Brown’s probation revoked again, but he’s not going to jail

Share

Chris Brown’s probation has been revoked again after the singer briefly appeared in court Monday for a progress hearing related to his 2009 conviction in an assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna.

The move stems from the R&B singer’s October arrest in Washington and subsequent misdemeanor assault charge following an altercation in which Brown was accused of hitting a man trying to take a picture of him outside the W Hotel. (Brown is scheduled to appear in D.C. court in connection with the case on Jan. 8.)

On Monday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin noted that Brown’s criminal complaint violated the terms of his probation because it meant that he was not obeying all laws. However, Brandlin did not order the singer to return to jail, saying he was pleased with the singer’s progress in rehab, L.A. Now reported.

It’s the second time this year that the 24-year-old has had his probation revoked, and he’s scheduled to return to court on Feb. 10 for another progress hearing.

Brandlin also ordered that Brown stop using medical marijuana, TMZ said. According to a letter from his rehab facility, he has already stopped using the drug.

In November, the “Love More” singer was ordered to a 90-day live-in anger-management treatment program in which he would have to complete three eight-hour days of community service each week and undergo periodic drug tests.

The Grammy Award winner has been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, according to his probation report, and suffered a “setback mentally and emotionally” when he was “not credited for all the hours” he served in community service, L.A. Now reported. He also became depressed during that time, the probation report said.

However, with the aid of other medications, the singer has been able to better “emotionally regulate himself,” the Associated Press said, citing a letter from an official at his rehab facility.
