You can call Danny Gokey “Daddy Gokey” now — the Season 8 third-place finalist on “American Idol” welcomed a son on Sunday with his wife, Leyicet.

Daniel Emanuel Gokey weighed in at 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was born just before 10 p.m. EST, according to People, where the elder Gokey directed fans when he confirmed the news on Twitter.

“Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family,” the singer told the mag. “I’m ecstatic to be a first-time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with.”

And though father and son might share the same first name, little Danny isn’t quite a junior, because Dad’s middle name is Jay.

Danny and Leyicet were married almost a year ago, on Jan. 29, 2012. It was Gokey’s second marriage, having lost his first wife — his high school sweetheart Sophia — to complications after surgery for congenital heart disease, before he auditioned for “Idol.”
