The 19-year-old son of Eddie Montgomery died Sunday, according to a statement released by the country singer.

“My son Hunter went to heaven today,” said the 51-year-old, who’s half of the duo Montgomery Gentry. “I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye.”

Hunter was involved in an accident, the details of which weren’t given, but Hunter’s mom, Tracy Nunan, posted prayers for her son from a Kentucky ICU in the early hours of Friday.

“As I sit here and watch my precious son, I can’t hold back the tears. God you are the mighty healer and I pray you spare my son. I love him and I feel so helpless,” she wrote on Facebook. “I feel like my life has just stopped. Please pray for him. Hunter Montgomery I will not accept anything less than you waking up and being with all of us again. I love you son! Please Jesus allow him to feel your presence and let him feel you walking beside him through this journey. Allow him to feel all the prayers of the wonderful people praying for him. Fight Hunter, you are a fighter!”

Hunter Montgomery was one of four children -- two sons and two daughters -- the singer had with Nunan, who was his wife for nearly 20 years. The couple split in late 2010, shortly after Eddie discovered he had prostate cancer, which he beat. He remarried, to Jennifer Belcher, in 2014.

Hunter became a father earlier this year, according to a post on his mother’s Facebook page. The son’s name is Bennett. He was engaged to girlfriend Davara Little after proposing to her at a Montgomery Gentry concert last summer, according to the Heavy.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
