Jim Carrey and Cathriona White were just taking a “breather” and had not split in the days before her apparent suicide, a source close to her is saying.

The comic and the Irish-born makeup artist “were never broken up,” the source told Gossip Cop on Monday, and added that nobody could have seen this coming.

“I have never seen Jim more upset about anything,” a source told the Chicago Sun-Times, “and we’ve been friends for a long, long time.”

The couple appeared to be on a romantic dinner date in Malibu a little more than a week before her body was found, according to Entertainment Tonight, which has pictures of them cozying up outdoors at a waterfront restaurant.

White’s body was, according to a coroner’s spokesman, found with four prescription medication bottles nearby. Three of them -- Ambien, Percocet and propranolol -- were prescribed for an alias used by Carrey, TMZ reported. The fourth, according to People, was Zofran. None were in White’s name, the coroner’s spokesman told the magazine.

Gossip Cop’s source said the actor wasn’t aware his meds were missing.

Ambien is a sleep aid; propranolol is a beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure and more; Percocet is a painkiller combining acetaminophen and oxycodone, an opioid. Zofran (ondansetron) is designed to treat nausea caused by cancer treatments or surgery, and in 2009 it was determined to be effective in treating symptoms of opioid withdrawal.

White also appears to have been married to another man but separated from him, with plans to file for divorce in December, a source in the medical examiner’s office told the Hollywood Reporter, which said it confirmed the information with a second source.

The medical examiner source said her body would be released to her husband, then brought back to Ireland.

“There is no way that Jim would have taken her out to public places if he thought she was married,” THR’s close-to-Carrey source said. “As far as Jim was concerned, Cat was separated from her husband and was going to start divorce proceedings in December.”

“Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family,” her loved ones said last week in a statement to the Irish Independent. “We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss.”

Carrey was, according to the Independent, expected to fly to Ireland for White’s funeral.
