Melissa Rivers has settled a medical malpractice lawsuit she filed against a New York clinic where her mother, Joan Rivers, had an endoscopy and later died.

Her attorneys confirmed Thursday that the case, which was filed in January 2015, has been settled.

Melissa Rivers said in a statement that the settlement would ensure “those culpable for her death have accepted responsibility for their actions.”

The comedian died Sept. 4, 2014, at age 81. The New York City medical examiner found she died of brain damage due to lack of oxygen after she stopped breathing during an endoscopy days earlier.

Rivers’ attorneys wouldn’t reveal the terms of the settlement. They say they want people to focus on Rivers’ legacy.

The clinic, Yorkville Endoscopy, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
