‘The Raven’ actor John Cusack gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The folks who know John Cusack love John Cusack -- and love to tease John Cusack -- as evidenced by the outpouring of superlatives that heralded the presentation Tuesday of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Sister Joan Cusack perhaps said it best, almost all the way to the end.

“I’d like to introduce the most thoughtful kind and majestic human being I’ve ever met, a perfect soul sent here by the angels to grace us with thought-provoking characters and unmatched comedic timing. Ladies and gentlemen, two-time Academy Award nominee and the person who should really be receiving a star today ...

Perhaps the gag was payback to her frequent costar for a few of those hard-core practical jokes alluded to by Billy Bob Thornton, who’d joined her brother in “Pushing Tin”?

Dan Aykroyd kept it rather straight, suggesting only a possible career in the music biz now that his onetime “Grosse Pointe Blank” costar was flanked on the boulevard by a couple of singing stars.

Jack Black, however couldn’t help but gush, describing his”High Fidelity” friend as “an incredible artist and a class act, menschy good-stuff-potato of a man, Johnny Cusacko!”

“The Raven”star himself played it humble as he received the 2,469th Walk of Fame star, which he tweeted later is right next to singing cowboy Gene Autry’s and across the street from Musso & Frank’s.

“To come up here and see my name here next to Gene Autry is very, very surreal,” he said. “I keep thinking about that Kinks song.”

Cusack followed up the ceremony with a visit to “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where he and Kimmel celebrated the day’s events with a peer-pressure-induced shot of hand sanitizer, something the host had riffed on in his opening monologue.

Judging by the post-Purell looks on their faces in the video below, that water chaser was very much appreciated.
