Country singer Kimberly Perry is engaged!
The lead singer of the group the Band Perry is now betrothed to J.P. Arencibia, lead catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, after he proposed to her Monday night, according to the Tennessean.
Arencibia popped the question with an emerald cut diamond engagement ring in the neighborhood of 3 carats, designed by a friend in Chicago. Perry wasn't sure about its exact size.
But it's the proposal that has everyone swooning. The ball player proposed under a large oak tree on her parents' 15-acre property in Greenville, Tenn. The singer thought she would be picking him up from the airport, but he surprised her as he stood under the tree when her family called her out of the house for dinner.
"If I get proposed to in this life, I hope it happens underneath this tree," the 27-year-old had previously said. "I saw that and I thought, 'This is really happening.'"
So her mom sent her back into the house to put on a pink dress she'd saved for the occasion. That's where she also found a letter from her family and an heirloom bracelet that her grandfather had given to her grandmother when they started dating, the newspaper said.
"I got to read the letter and get dressed and put on my grandfather's bracelet," Perry said. "I came back out on the front porch and he was standing there and he got down on one knee. It was perfect."
The two have been dating for about a year and a half. They met in February 2012 at a strawberry festival in Florida. Apparently, Arencibia, 30, had seen her "If I Die Young" music video and told her that he "had this moment where he felt like that was going to be a part of his future."
He's also got the approval of her two younger brothers and bandmates, Neil and Reid Perry.
Kimberly Perry added that she has felt a spiritual and emotional connection to her new fiance.
"I've never felt that with anyone before," she said. "He's just a really gentle soul. He balances me for sure."
Perry and Arencibia plan to get married next summer, the Tennessean said.
