Meryl Streep’s oven envy: How Gwyneth Paltrow saved Thanksgiving

Count Meryl Streep among those who adore polarizing actress and lifestyle guru Gwyneth Paltrow.

The “Into the Woods” star appealed to Paltrow’s good-neighbor sensibilities during a “Thanksgiving disaster,” Streep revealed Wednesday on “Live With Kelly & Michael.”

The Oscar winners live in the same building in New York, and when Streep’s oven gave out on Turkey Day, she e-mailed Paltrow about using hers instead.

“I hate my oven, I hate it,” Streep exclaimed. “And you never hate your oven more than on Thanksgiving Day when it won’t cook the turkey ... and there’s always something. This year we were in the city and this oven just does not do it.”

The 65-year-old said one of her brothers was in charge of cooking the turkey, but only the white meat had cooked after “about 11 hours” of roasting.

So she did the 21st century equivalent of knocking on her neighbor’s door: The actress first cleared the oven undertaking with an out-of-town Paltrow via e-mail, and the doorman let her in.

“She has the best oven I have ever seen in my life. It’s really, really, really, really true,” Streep said. “I e-mailed her. They weren’t there, so I went over and I did all the sides in her oven. And my brother was in charge of the turkey that would not cook. ... The sides were fantastic.”

Wish as you may, it turns out Streep isn’t a nosy neighbor and wouldn’t snoop around the Goop founder’s house, despite host Kelly Ripa’s goading.

“I brought one of my daughters who was dying [to see the apartment],” Streep added. “They’re all equally bad and they all had to draw lots for who went with me. But it’s a beautiful, beautiful place with the best oven I’ve ever seen in my life.”
