Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones go public as a couple again

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones reunited Tuesday night in New York, walking a red carpet in what was their first official public appearance as a couple since their split announcement last August.

Though the couple had reportedly been spotted together repeatedly in recent months, they took the occasion of the off-Broadway premiere of “The Library” at the Public Theater -- directed by Steven Soderbergh in his stage debut and starring Chloe Grace Moretz -- to finally smile together for cameras that didn’t belong to paparazzi.

Soderbergh, of course, directed Douglas along with Matt Damon in HBO’s Liberace flick “Behind the Candelabra,” which earned Golden Globes for top miniseries or movie made for TV and for Mr. Zeta-Jones’ acting performance. The actor and director also paired up “Traffic” and “Haywire.” Soderbergh helmed the movies “Side Effects,” “Traffic” and “Ocean’s Twelve,” which all saw Zeta-Jones in front of the camera.

Since the couple went their separate ways in August, he’s said on several occasions that they were trying to keep their marriage together. They have two children together, Dylan, 13, and Carys, who turns 11 on Sunday.

“We were just taking a little break. We’re talking. I think everything will be fine, and I’m very hopeful,” he said backstage at the Emmys in September after winning a trophy for “Candelabra.”

Douglas’ mother, Diana Dill, told Hello! magazine in March that the couple were “together” and said parents and children were living together as a family after Zeta-Jones moved into “a house next door.”

Looks as though things are working out for the best.
