Robert Pattinson on Kristen Stewart cheating: ‘... happens’

Robert Pattinson seems to be totally over the whole Kristen Stewart-Rupert Sanders cheating scandal that ended his relationship with the actress a couple of years ago.

Like totally over it.

The former “Twilight” star gave a candid interview to Esquire UK in which he spoke about his new acting direction, his ascetic lifestyle and, oh yeah, that whole affair thing that went down in July 2012, alluding to the latter with an expletive that rhymes with “spit” (and if you read the whole interview, you’ll see why we chose that particular word).

”... happens, you know?” the 28-year-old told Esquire’s Sanjiv Bhattacharya. “It’s just young people. ... It’s normal! And honestly, who gives a ...?”

Well, legions of “Twihards,” for one, whose worlds were shattered when the costars called it quits over and over again following Stewart’s tryst with her married “Snow White and the Huntsman” director. Still, that didn’t deter Pattinson from dismissing the whole incident.

“The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can’t predict,” the Englishman said. “It’s like that scene in ‘Doubt,’ where [Philip Seymour Hoffman’s priest character is] talking about how to take back gossip? They throw all those feathers from a pillow into the sky and you’ve got to go and collect all the feathers.”

Bhattacharya gathers that celebrity hasn’t damaged Pattinson, saying the actor sees his surge to fame as a surreal thing that’s not about him.

“There was a time, three years ago, when I didn’t know where to live where I wouldn’t be trapped in my home, you know? But I worked it out,” Pattinson said. “It’s not that big a deal in the end. Half of it is in your head.”

Indeed, the Dior Homme spokesman, like Stewart, has moved past “Twilight” and arguably past their relationship, by immersing himself in roles unlike Edward Cullen and in indie films that Twihards “won’t go” see. They’re projects he’s sought out and that he does for himself, he said -- not for the fans or the money or the business -- that include David Michod’s “The Rover,” Anton Corbijn’s “Life” and David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars.” Pattinson previously worked with Cronenberg on “Cosmopolis.”

Other highlights from the interview include the actor revealing several Hollywood insider secrets, including an explanation of the “pre-interview” process for late-night shows, how franchise film contracts can rope actors in for several movies before they even know what their role is, how he dressed up his assistant as himself so the papz would have someone to tail and how an actress’ bubble bath might actually be filled with urine if she’s too demanding.

And, just like that, RPattz gives us four new reasons to like him again.
