World watches as Kate, William leave hospital with royal baby

The day after the royal baby was born, some nice young parents tucked their child seat into the car and headed home from the hospital with their newborn.

With the entire world looking on.

It was Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William, of course, and the child who has yet to be named, stepping out from the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London and giving royal watchers and the media a first glimpse of the wee Prince of Cambridge.

While Kate looked fantastic — especially for someone who’d just delivered an 8-pound, 6-ounce boy in more than 10 hours of labor — William did most of the talking as the couple answered a handful of questions outside the hospital.

Who changed the “first nappy?” Why, that would be William, continuing his involved-father trend that began with his presence in the delivery room for his son’s birth.

“He’s got her looks, thankfully,” the new dad said, joking later about the baby’s hair: “He’s got way more than me, thank God.”

And addressing the hot topic of the day, the future king’s moniker, he said, “We’re still working on a name, so we’ll have that as soon as we can.”

The day also brought guaranteed baby-waking cacophony starting at 2 p.m., with a 41-gun salute at Green Park, a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London, and three hours of pealing bells at Westminster Abbey, all going off simultaneously.

No worries — it appears this little guy can compete, according to his dad.

“He’s got a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure.”
