Tom Hanks announces diabetes diagnosis on television

There was much shock in the "Late Show With David Letterman" audience as Hanks revealed he has Type 2 diabetes. His diagnosis came with good and bad news: While the malady can virtually disappear, the 57-year-old would need to slim down considerably to do so. "My doctor said, 'Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be completely healthy,'" Hanks said. "I said to her, 'Well, I'm going to have Type 2 diabetes, because there's no way I can weigh as much as I did in high school.'" Hanks' goal would be "96 pounds."
