The story takes place on New Year's Eve inside a police station that's about to be closed for good when the unthinkable occurs: a full on assault on the precinct by a gang of hit men. Officer Jake Roenick (Hawke) is forced to throw together a makeshift platoon of soldiers made up cops and criminals to save themselves from a mob looking to knock off Marion Bishop (Laurence).
Though as much as I was predisposed into loathing the re-make, it actually is quite good--and sadly overlooked upon its original release. If you haven't seen it, this blu-ray release will probably meet with a few surprising delights for the curious fans of its cast. Despite some terrific performances, one of the film's shortcomings is the fact that key roles are so star-studded. One of the reasons the original was so terrific is because with a cast of unknowns, you had virtually no idea who might die. That said, this film still deserves a look.
Extras include a healthy audio commentary, five behind-the-scenes featurettes as well as deleted scenes.
