Think back to 1983's winning "Terms of Endearment." See the loving familial dysfunction, the funny story that turns surprisingly sad and the often troublesome interloping of men. All serve to highlight what is, ultimately, a love story between two women. Yes, Debra Winger and Shirley MacLaine played mother and daughter, but their bond in "Terms," like that embodied by Julianne Moore and Annette Bening as partners in "Kids," was certainly stronger than any other relationship in their respective films.
