Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie get hitched: the Brangelina wedding roundup

Share

Mr. and Mrs. Pitt! Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finally tied the knot after nine years together, six kids and more than two years of being engaged.

The much anticipated wedding news was delivered Thursday via the Associated Press by a spokesman for the “Maleficent” star, 39, and the actor, 50.

Not surprisingly, the ultra-private power pair has been mum on the details, so here’s what we know (and what we think we know) so far:

The date: Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014

The venue: A small chapel at Chateau Miraval, the couple’s private wine-making estate, in the south of France.

The officiant: The comely couple got their marriage license from a California judge, who also performed the ceremony, according to AP.

The ceremony: “It was a non-denominational civil ceremony. It was very much a family affair,” the family’s spokesperson said.

The rings: You might recall, Pitt had a near 16-carat engagement ring designed by Robert Procop for his lady love in 2012. The Oscar-winning “12 Years a Slave” producer turned to Procop once again, the designer confirmed to Us Weekly, to forge their wedding bands. Pitt was spotted wearing his ring at the Tank Museum in Bonvington, Dorset, where the actor was working the U.K. photocall for “Fury,” his World War II-set drama.

The dress: If it was indeed a dress -- Jolie has a menswear proclivity, but E! News reported that for the occasion she wore a white gown that was “very traditional, but very Angie, it was comfortable but plain white floor-length antique lace and silk,” a source told the site. No word yet on the gown’s designer.

The veil: There was one and when Pitt lifted it, he “gasped because she looked so stunning,” E! reported. (Well, how was she supposed to look?!)

Accessories: Also from E!, Jolie is said to have worn something that belonged to her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand. More specifically: a gold locket with a photo of Bertrand in it.

The wedding party: The couple’s six children -- Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 6 -- were involved. Maddox and Pax walked their mom down the aisle, Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls, and Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers, the AP reported.

The reason: The kids. The Oscar-winning A-listers said they would tie the knot if their kids asked them to -- and they did. “We’re getting a lot of pressure from the kids,” Pitt told CBS News in 2012. “Yeah, it means something to them, and they’re, you know, they have questions when their friends’ parents are married and, why is that?”

The honeymoon: After the ceremony, the family had some down time at Miraval then on Wednesday, Brangelina and brood converged on the Mediterranean island nation of Malta, where the newlyweds are shooting their upcoming film, “Bye the Sea,” according to Us Weekly.

The reaction: “How great is that?” Pitt’s repeat collaborator George Clooney, who is engaged to international human-rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, told People. “I’m really happy for Brad and Angie and their whole family.” It’s unclear if Clooney made it to the nuptials.

“It seems like it was a beautiful, simple ceremony with all the kids involved,” Jolie’s once estranged father, Jon Voight, said in a statement. “Must have been a lot of fun. I am very happy for them.” (The “Ray Donovan” actor was not invited to the wedding, TMZ reported; however, Pitt’s entire family reportedly made it to the affair.)

The marriage count: This is Pitt’s second marriage. He was famously married to “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005, but the “it” couple divorced amid rumors that Pitt had left the actress for his “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” costar, Jolie.

As for Jolie, it’s her third marriage. She was wed to English actor Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999 then to actor Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003.
