More than a year after his “Battleship” was torpedoed at the box office, filmmaker Pete Berg is set to unveil his new movie in the heart of Hollywood.

“Lone Survivor,” the director’s Navy SEAL drama, will have its red carpet debut at AFI Fest, the eight-day-long film gathering that kicks off Nov. 7. Berg’s film, which Universal Pictures will open in limited release in late December before its nationwide launch two weeks later, is one of three additional gala screenings announced by festival programmers on Thursday. The others include John Wells’ adaptation of the successful Broadway production “August: Osage County” and a 3-D version of Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1987 film “The Last Emperor.”

After premiering to an enthusiastic response at the New York Film Festival this month, Spike Jonze’s “Her” will now play for Angelenos as one of AFI Fest’s special screenings. The movie, about a divorcé (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with a computerized companion (Scarlett Johansson), is one of a handful of festival circuit favorites that will screen at the event. Another newly added picture is “Jodorowsky’s Dune,” a documentary about director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s efforts to turn the popular science fiction novel “Dune” into a film in the 1970s.
