‘Grand Budapest,’ ‘Into the Woods,’ ‘Birdman’ win costume design awards

“The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Birdman” and “Into the Woods” won feature film honors Tuesday evening at the 17th Costume Designers Guild Awards.

The award for period film went to Milena Canonero for “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” Albert Wolsky earned the top prize for contemporary film for “Birdman,” and Colleen Atwood received the guild’s award for fantasy film for “Into the Woods.”

Canonero and Atwood are nominated for Oscars, along with the costume designers for “Inherent Vice,” “Maleficent” and “Mr. Turner.”

On the television side, the guild honored Michele Clapton in the period/fantasy series category for “Game of Thrones,” and Jenny Eagan in the contemporary series category for “True Detective.”

Lou Eyrich won for made-for-television movie or miniseries for “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

Christopher Lawrence earned the guild’s honor in the commercial costume design category for “Army ‘Defy Expectations, Villagers.’”

“Boyhood” writer-director Richard Linklater received the Distinguished Collaborator Award, and costume designer Aggie Guerard Rodgers received the Career Achievement Award.

Deborah Nadoolman Landis received the 2015 Edith Head Award for the Advancement and Education of the Art of Costume Design, and actress Naomi Watts was presented with the Lacoste Spotlight Award.

“Shameless” star Emmy Rossum hosted the ceremony.
