Of course, despite all comparisons, each of the nominated films is unique in its vision. Perhaps the most inventive one looks through the eyes of a child at a world that blurs reality and fantasy. It recalls parts of 2009's winner, "Slumdog Millionaire," in which a boy must navigate the often-hostile elements around him. But it also conjures 2003's animated feature winner "Spirited Away," in which a girl's imagination fills her world with beauty and wonder.
