Will Ferrell is a beloved funnyman and a well-known NBA fan — so what would possess him to chuck a basketball straight into the head of an unlucky cheerleader?

A movie, of course.

During Wednesday’s game between the visiting Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans, Ferrell popped up at halftime to shoot a scene for “Daddy’s Home,” the upcoming Paramount comedy reuniting him with his “The Other Guys” costar, Mark Wahlberg.

Directed by Sean Anders, the film stars Ferrell as an uptight radio executive whose efforts to be a good father to his new stepchildren are threatened by the reappearance of the kids’ deadbeat dad, played by Wahlberg.

In the scene filmed Wednesday at the Smoothie King Center, Ferrell’s character is called upon to attempt a half-court shot and misses very, very badly. To sneak a peek at Ferrell’s epic brick, check out sportswriter Kevin Ding’s video on Instagram.

To complete the scene, Ferrell was swiftly escorted off the hardwood by a swarm of yellow-blazered security guards.

According to the Times-Picayune, “Daddy’s Home” will continue to shoot in New Orleans through Feb. 3.
