Frank Ocean vocal injury cancels Drake’s OVO Fest opening night

The opening night of Drake’s annual OVO Fest in Toronto has been canceled due to Frank Ocean’s recent vocal injury, Live Nation announced on Tuesday.

The R&B crooner was slated to headline the first night of the two-day festival alongside James Blake on Sunday at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheater. Blake has been shifted to Monday’s show, where he will now perform alongside headliner Drake and a slew of surprise guests.

Ocean was forced to scrap the remainder of his Australian mini-tour after he suffered a tear to one of his vocal cords last week.

The critically acclaimed soul singer had launched his first trek in Australia with a show at Melbourne’s Festival Hall on Thursday and experienced difficulties with his voice. In fan footage that surfaced shortly after the concert Ocean struggled to power through a strained voice during a performance of “Forrest Gump.”

Ocean’s vocal injury also forced him to pull out of two other festivals including Splendour in the Grass, which his Australian mini-tour was anchored around, and Montreal’s Osheaga music festival.

Fans who purchased single day tickets for Sunday will be refunded, and those who purchased two-day passes will automatically be refunded for Sunday’s show.
