Goldenvoice releases Coachella set times, adds to the lineup

Share

All right, Coachella goers, it’s time to plan your weekend. Are you watching dance-pop artist Ellie Goulding or the return of the Afghan Whigs the first day of the fest? On the second day, are you heading to Foster the People, or is that the time you had earmarked for a visit to the Sephora Collection Beauty Studio?

Promoter Goldenvoice on Tuesday released the full set times for the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which begins Friday in Indio, Calif. As expected, OutKast will close out the main stage Friday, while main stage headlining honors belong to Muse on Saturday and the Arcade Fire on Sunday.

The announcement came with additions. Slyly slotted amid the set times was rock act the Pixies and Strokes leader Julian Casablancas. Both were added to Saturday’s lineup.

There are also going to be some tough choices to be made.

INTERACTIVE: Plan your Coachella schedule

On Saturday, a head-scratching pickle is brewing between hit maker Pharrell Williams and Darkside’s mix of psychedelics and ambiance. And then there’s locals Haim and the return of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, also on Friday. On Sunday, are you watching mature indie-rockers Superchunk, or the low-key R&B of Blood Orange?

Or you can skip all of the above and spend the day dining at fancy pop-up restaurants and indulging in craft beer.

Early on Tuesday Goldenvoice released maps for this year’s dual Coachella festivals. The big change,if you’re a Coachella regular, is the move of the dance bacchanal that is the DoLab from the center-right of the field to a corner by the food courts.

The event, to be held over the weekends of April 11-13 and April 18-20 with identical lineups, is the unofficial start of the summer festival season. It’s also a giant moneymaker. The two Coachella weekends in 2013 brought in a market-leading $67 million, according to data published by Billboard Boxscore. That was a major jump from the $47 million the festivals tallied in 2012.
