First look on the set of new ‘Game of Thrones’ season

Share

The new season of “Game of Thrones” doesn’t appear on HBO until sometime next year, but the Spanish publication El Correo de Andalucía visited the show’s set in Spain.

The country will be playing the role of Dorne, the southernmost of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros in the series. And based on the short 30-second clip released on YouTube, it appears the new season will continue to make bold deviations from the novels.

In the clip, we see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in costume as Jaime Lannister, meeting with new characters Doran Martell (Alexander Siddig) and Areo Hotah (DeObia Oparei). Doran is the older brother of Oberyn Martell, whose eyes were famously smooshed out by the Mountain last season. It looks like Jaime’s got some explaining to do.

But readers of the books may recall that Jaime does not visit Dorne in the books. So what is he doing there and how will that story play out in the new season?

This scene will take place in the ninth episode of the season, if the film slate at the very beginning of the clip is to be believed, so it will be in the penultimate episode of the season.

As the HBO series hurtles toward the end of the events chronicled in George R.R. Martin’s published novels, there may well be many surprising moments for dedicated fans in the new season.
