NBC picks up two comedy series, ‘Crowded’ and ‘Superstore’

Hot on the heels of NBC’s first announced comedy pickup of the new season, the network has announced two more series.

“Crowded,” from writer Suzanne Martin and executive producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner, is a family comedy starring Patrick Warburton and Carrie Preston. The two look forward to becoming empty-nesters but are surprised when their two grown daughters move back home and the husband’s parents cancel their Florida retirement plans to move in with their son.

The series also stars Stacy Keach, Carlease Burke, Mia Serafino and Miranda Cosgrove and will be directed by sitcom veteran James Burrows.

The other new series is “Superstore,” a workplace comedy from former “Office” writer Justin Spitzer. The series looks at the lives of the oddball employees of a big-box store in the vein of Wal-Mart.

The ensemble cast includes America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Mark McKinney, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nichole Bloom and Nico Santos. The series is executive produced by David Bernad and “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer.

NBC previously announced it had picked up the comedy series “People Are Talking,” about two racially diverse couples who are neighbors and best friends, who discuss all manner of hot-button issues in their lives.
