Netflix renews ‘Marco Polo,’ reveals ‘Daredevil’ premiere date

It’s going to be a busy spring on Netflix, with the arrival of four new original series for adults, including the highly anticipated “Daredevil” series from Marvel, as well as two new original series for kids and the renewal of their just-released series “Marco Polo” for a second season.

The first big series, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” comes from Tina Fey and her fellow “30 Rock” writer Robert Carlock. The series stars Ellie Kemper from “The Office” as a girl who has escaped from a doomsday cult and is looking to start over in New York City. The series also stars “30 Rock’s” Jane Krakowski and Titus Burgess, and Carol Kane. That series premieres March 6.

Next is the new series from “Damages” creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler titled “Bloodline.” The new series is a drama about a family with many hidden secrets starring Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz, Jacinda Barrett, Jamie McShane, Enrique Murciano, Sissy Spacek, and Sam Shepard. It premieres March 20.

Then there’s the highly anticipated new series “Marvel’s Daredevil,” premiering April 10, ahead of the big screen debut of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1. The series about the blind attorney Matt Murdock, who moonlights as the crime-fighting hero Daredevil, stars Charlie Cox, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson.

Finally, on May 8, the service will premiere the Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin comedy “Grace and Frankie.” The two women play septuagenarians who have always been frenemies but find common ground when their husbands leave them for each other. The series, created by “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman and “Home Improvement” writer Howard J. Morris, also stars Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Brooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, June Diane Raphael and Baron Vaughn.

The three children’s shows are “The Adventures of Puss in Boots,” inspired by the “Shrek” interpretation of the character, set to premiere Jan. 16; “Ever After High: Spring Unsprung” premieres Feb. 6. Finally, there’s a second season of “Mako Mermaids” on Feb. 13.

While Netflix did not announce a return date for “Marco Polo,” the lavish historical drama’s first season premiered Dec. 12.
