NYU rated No.1 in new film school rankings

New film school rankings show that New York University is No. 1, producing the most graduates that have participated in the production of quality films.

This is the first such study from Ranker.com, a website that collects data and gathers answers to questions like “Who makes the best acoustic guitar?” or “Who is the funniest comedian?”

In conducting the rather unscientific study, Ravi Iyer, a data scientist for Ranker.com, sifted through data from freebase.com, which he used to find actors and other film workers and their alma maters. He correlated that data to a Ranker list of the “Best Movies of All Time.”

Schools were ranked according to which had the highest number of students working in the highest number of top movies, including people who worked behind the scenes in production.

By that measurement, NYU took first place. The University of Southern California was second on the list, followed by the University of California at Los Angeles.

6. Columbia University
7. Harvard University
8. Royal Academy of Dramatic Art
9. Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art
10. American Academy of Dramatic Arts

Ranker.com isn’t the only outfit that rates film schools. Last year the Hollywood Reporter created its own list of top film schools, ranking USC first, followed by the Los Angeles’ American Film Institute and the Beijing Film Academy.
