New in town: La Defence
NEW IN TOWN
La Défence, a new “Euro-Asian” restaurant and karaoke bar in Koreatown, is decorated to look like a faux-French village. Former Koi executive chef Yuji Iwasa mans the kitchen. “My training is classic French, and I’m Japanese, so I try to blend my heritage in with the food.” The result can be sampled as part of a $75 omakase (chef’s choice) or at lunch in a $17 chef’s choice bento box, which might include Iwasa’s tangy spaghetti bolognese next to his signature black cod in a shiitake mushroom sauce and an assortment of sashimi. 3701 Wilshire Blvd., No. 101. (213) 384-9500
