The award: Outstanding lead actress in a miniseries or a movie, Angels in America
The speech: The beloved actress poked fun at her seemingly endless collection of adoring fans, both in and out of Hollywood, when she won for the miniseries adapted from Tony Kushner's Tony Award-winning play. Managing to have a sense of humor and following the requisite name-check of fellow nominees, Meryl Streep was succint, grateful and humorous.
The quotes: "There are some days when I myself think I'm overrated, but not today." and "The only one of the group is Emma Thompson, who will hold a grudge for the rest of her life."
