Who they are: Sheriff Andy Griffith (Andy Griffith), his son Opie (Ron Howard) and their Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) are the family, but all of the little town of Mayberry seems to take interest. What the kids like: Probably the same things Opie liked about being in Mayberry. The excitement of an outsider coming into town, Barney's occasionally over-the-top antics, watching the sheriff outwit the bad guy, the whistling theme song and, of course, fishing. Well, not every kid likes fishing, but it usually looks fun when you catch something. What the parents can't get enough of: Andy is a good guy, a sheriff, and generally imparts a good lesson to the kids. Watching the small-town antics of the deputy, the mechanic, the barbershop owner, Aunt Bee and more hark back to a simpler time. Parents often need to hark.
