"Top Hat" This classic 1935 Fred Astaire- Ginger Rogers musical isnt about a guy who makes top hats for a living, but rather is a sophisticated, art-deco delight with a deliriously wonderful Irving Berlin score about mistaken identity. One of the films greatest moments is the Top Hat number featuring Astaire and a group of chorus boys decked out in top hats, white ties and tails. Astaire explained in his autobiography that the Top Hat number had its origins in a number he had performed in a Broadway musical called Smiles. He actually pitched the Top Hat idea number to Berlin, who then wrote the song.
