"The Green Berets" While protests were raging around the country especially at the Democratic Convention in Chicago to end the Vietnam War, super conservative John Wayne starred in and directed this critically lambasted action-drama. Wayne plays Col. Mike Kirby of the U.S. Special Forces who is sent to attack a camp deep in Viet Cong territory. David Janssen, who had recently stopped running on The Fugitive, is the liberal war correspondent sent to cover the war by his anti-war newspaper. The film, though, was a hit and is the only pro-war film made during the turbulent 1960s.
