Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown

The show: Bravo’s “Being Bobby Brown” was a smashing success for its one season, but probably not because of its star. The series offered a look at pop diva Whitney Houston, presenting viewers with a vision of the singer that was a little less glamorous. We’ll leave it at that, but longtime Houston fans were left wondering why she bothered to participate in the series at all, which seemed designed to give Brown some sort of a revival. The breakup: Houston filed for divorce in late 2006, about a year after the series ended. How the show hurt them: Everyone loves a comeback, and Whitney Houston is tabled to release her first album since 2002 this fall. For Houston, one hit song will turn the series into little more than a footnote in her career. Brown may not fare so well. The Hollywood Reporter wrote in its review of the show that the R&B star was “even more vulgar than the tabloids suggest.” He’s graduated to other reality shows, and later appeared in CMT’s “Gone Country.” LAURA RAUCH, Associated Press
