"Little Miss Sunshine" There's love even in dysfunctional families. And families don't get much more dysfunctional than in this Oscar-winning 2006 comedy-drama. Family head Richard (Greg Kinnear) is a go-getter who works as a motivational speaker and life coach. But his advice hasn't worked with his stepson Dwayne (Paul Dano), a Goth teenager who reads Nietzsche and has taken a vow of silence until he fulfills his dream to become a test pilot. And Richard also has problems with his colorful father, Edwin (Alan Arkin, in his Oscar-winning turn), who has come to live with the family after he was evicted from a retirement home for snorting heroin, a habit he continues at the house. Despite the cone of silence among Dwayne and Richard and Edwin's hippy-dippy ways, there is a real love among them, especially when they take an 800-mile road trip so that young daughter Olive (Abigail Breslin) can participate in a "Little Miss Sunshine" beauty contest.
