Zac Efron was the first of the group to venture out of the High School Musical cocoon landing the role of Link Larkin in New Lines 2007 summer hit Hairspray. Efron held his own against heavyweights John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer, but he was on familiar turf playing a dancing, singing, teenage television star. This summer well find out whether he can carry a nonmusical film when he stars with Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann in Seventeen Again, in which he plays a fortysomething trapped in a 17-year-olds body. Report card sum-up: B-plus. Decent success so far, but were curious to see this young man move out of the comfort zone.
