Postmodernism, reassessed

This was a very good year for layred, cliché-free looks back at the architecture that critiqued and ultimately put an end to the dominance of the International Style. The Museum of Contemporary Art welcomed a handsome traveling show on Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown and their research in the late 1960s on Las Vegas, while Anthony Vidler mounted at Yale an overdue tribute to James Stirling, the multitalented British architect.
