Moonstruck Cher received her best actress Oscar for her endearingly sweet turn in Norman Jewisons entertaining 1987 romantic comedy, penned by Academy Award-winning John Patrick Shanley. She plays Loretta, a sober, well-ordered 37-year-old Italian American widow who lives in a large house with her family in Brooklyn. She falls head over heels for Ronny (Nicolas Cage), the moody, one-armed brother of her fiance (Danny Aiello). The best scene: when they go to Lincoln Center to see La Boheme at the Metropolitan Opera.
