Shirley MacLaine finally got over the Oscar hump when she won lead actress for 1983's "Terms of Endearment," which also starred Debra Winger. The onscreen mother and daughter were pitted against each other in the Oscar race, and also apparently behind the scenes, where spats led to MacLaine leaving the production. She later returned, and the film went on to win four additional Oscars, including best picture.
