The artist formerly known as Joaquin Phoenix gets grilled by David Letterman

The stunt: Continuing his march into the abyss, Phoenix tried -- but failed -- to convince David Letterman that he'd given up the actor's life to pursue rapping full-time. The act, as many believe it is, has been suspect since its launch, the result of one Casey Affleck tagging along to document Phoenix's career change for a film. Did it work? Letterman got some mileage, not to mention YouTube play, out of Phoenix a la ZZ Top. But was he duped? Not a chance. And neither were we.
