What went down: Ingrid Bergman was a full-fledged star by 1949 when she contacted famed Italian director Roberto Rossellini, with Bergman above, about making a film together. Rossellini cast her in "Strombolini," and the pair quickly fell in love behind the scenes. Soon after, Bergman became pregnant. The problem? She already had a husband, a dentist named Aron Petter Lindstrom, and a daughter named Pia. When the scandal broke, Bergman was dropped from television appearances, denounced on the U.S. Senate floor and eventually moved to Italy. Once her divorce was final, Bergman married Rossellini, and the two had a son and twin daughters together (including actress Isabella Rossellini).
