From the Plastics to Oscar gold? Catching up with Rachel McAdams and the ‘Mean Girls’ cast

Share

A Mean Girl nominated for an Oscar? That’s so fetch.

In 2004, a still Not Ready for Prime Time Tina Fey saw her scripted “Mean Girls” introduce a quintet of promising young actresses to much of the world. The hit teen comedy pitted a fresh-faced Lindsay Lohan against the so-wickedly-vapid-they’re-funny high school clique the Plastics (Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert). Lizzy Caplan was on board as the darkly droll — and wonderfully named — Janis Ian, Lohan’s cohort in taking down the girl posse.

In the decade-plus since, the quintet’s career trajectories have traveled wildly different paths. But come Academy Awards night, it will be the Queen “B” herself, McAdams, walking the red carpet and possibly taking home the Golden Boy for supporting actress for her spot-on turn in “Spotlight.”
